Adonis Hoffman is a lawyer, professor, communications expert and leadership strategist based in Washington, DC. He is founder and chairman of the American Business Leadership Institute, a nonprofit think tank which advances the positive role of business in society and fosters a new generation of responsible business leaders, and a member of the graduate faculty at Georgetown University where he lectures on "Marketing, Advertising & Public Policy", "Contemporary Corporate Communications", and "Corporate Responsibility".

Mr. Hoffman  helps business leaders, policymakers, corporations, associations, universities, international organizations and nonprofits to develop effective strategies and solutions to address corporate, global and public policy challenges.  He also builds communications strategies and proprietary platforms to help organizations reach key audiences. 

From 2000-2009, Mr. Hoffman served as senior vice president and counsel for the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the national trade association representing advertising, marketing and media buying agencies and was one of the industry's lead representatives on Capitol Hill, in the federal regulatory agencies and before the federal courts. Hoffman is a notable voice on the subject of corporate responsibility and the role of business in society.  He serves as the editor of Business in Society, the Institute's Journal of Business Leadership and Corporate Responsibility.

In government, Hoffman served in the following positions:  as counsel to the chairman and as deputy chief of the cable (now media) bureau of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC); as subcommittee staff director and counsel on the Foreign Affairs Committee in the U.S. House of Representatives; as legislative counsel to the Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus in Congress, and as economic advisor to the Lieutenant Governor of the state of California. 

Outside of government, Mr. Hoffman has worked in the following areas:  as senior Associate and director of the International Law Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; as senior fellow at the World Policy Institute of The New School; as managing director of Capitol Exchange Corporation; as attorney at Hopkins & Sutter, and as senior account executive at Grey & Company Public Communications International.

Hoffman is a board member, director or trustee of the following organizations:  Earth Communications Systems; The First Amendment Advisory Council of The Media Institute; Advisory Board of the Corporate Counsel Institute at Georgetown University Law Center; Smithsonian Institution's National Postal Museum.  Mr. Hoffman's articles have been published in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy, Legal Times, the Chicago Tribune, Broadcasting & Cable, among others, and he has appeared on CNN, NBC, FOX, MSNBC, Canadian Broadcasting the Voice of America, and National Public Radio as an expert commentator on legal and public policy issues.  He is the author of Diversity: How to Do It Right--A Guide for Business Leaders

He received an A.B. from Princeton University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, and is admitted to practice law before the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the U.S.Court of International Trade and the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Hoffman resides outside of Washington DC in northern Virginia with his family, and they are active in interscholastic lacrosse and youth mentoring programs.
