I have the honor of teaching a graduate level course on Corporate Responsibility at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.  For more information on this course and its objectives, please click here.

Corporate responsibility is not a new subject matter.  Scholars have debated for decades how companies should relate to society, conduct their operations and treat  customers and investors.  Although there are many sensible definitions of corporate responsibility, we define corporate responsibility as "the tangible evidence of a corporation's values and judgment as reflected in its policies and practices throughout the world."  Today, corporate responsibility involves a varied and complex mandate for companies. It extends beyond the issue of financial disclosure and shareholder accountability.

Ideally, it involves a comprehensive set of policies, practices and programs that are as central to a company's mission as the duty to return profit to shareholders.  Corporate responsibility requires companies to treat their employees fairly, to  support and contribute to the communities in which they operate, and to act in a way that meets or exceeds the legal, ethical and social  expectations that society has for business.

The American Business Leadership Institute is among the country's thought leaders in the area of  corporate responsibility and the role of business in society.  The Institute works with CEOs, directors, trade associations and corporations on effective strategies to build and implement sustainable corporate responsibility within their organizations.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss how I can help your organization to improve the way you communicate and implement your commitment to corporate responsibility.  Please feel free to contact me.
